How to get to Lausanne from abroad
By air
Switzerland has two international airports. Most airlines connect to Zurich/Kloten International Airport, which is located approximately 230 kilometers from Lausanne. Geneva International Airport is conveniently located at a distance of 60 kilometers to Lausanne. Both airports have direct train connections to Lausanne.
By train
Lausanne is located on the main backbone of the Swiss Railways. Trains are on time, and connect Lausanne to any location practically every 30 minutes. Convenient connections to Germany and Italy, as well as direct bullet-train connection to France are available.

By the way, Lausanne can also be reached by boat ...

How to get to EPFL from Lausanne
    By public transportation
By public transportation The EPFL campus is located on the lake side, and can be easily reached using the metro (TSOL) line M1, connecting the campus (EPFL) to downtown (Lausanne Flon) every 20 minutes. To do this trip, you will need to get a ticket from a vending machine with validity for adult and two zones (as of August 2006, CHF 2.80, single trip, one hour limited validity). Please check the web server of Lausanne Public Transportation (TL) for official and detailed information.
The metro station is located at Flon. A small but very steep hill is separating the railway (Gare CFF) and metro (TSOL) stations. Walking up and downhill takes 10 minutes. Alternatively, bus line MB is connecting both stations. The bus stop is outside of the railway station.
    By car
Getting into the local area highway N1, follow the "Lausanne-Sud" road directions. Take the exit "Universite (UNIL) EPFL". Continue on the lakeside drive "Route Cantonale" for approximately one kilometer, and enter the campus following the road sign EPFL. Leave your car on any parking lot, on a green parking place. Get your parking card to be placed behind the windscreen at the conference registration desk; the parking fee is CHF 5.00 per day.
